I adored George Ferrandi. I mean, she is pretty much the ultimate dream of many aspiring artists out there; she lives in Brooklyn, gets to travel to promote her art, and most of all, gets to simply MAKE ART AS A LIVING! It wasn't just her cool life that made me like her though, she also is such a unique, genuine, and creative person I could hardly believe it, some of the ideas she came up, as crazy as they might have seemed sometimes, were so incredibly interesting and incredible. She seemed so devoted to her work (all the way down to resting on strangers shoulders), and I absolutely love how she experiments with performance art, visual art, and sculpture to create truly unique pieces.
SCULPTURE:
My favorite sculpture piece George told us about was the "Prosthetics of Joy", as it was unlike any other piece of work I'd ever seen before. I love how George got the inspiration from simply scrolling through her Facebook feed and finding a photo she loved, a love so strong she wanted to be in the photo herself. Thus, the "Prosthetics of Joy" project was created. Probably my favorite thing about the "Prosthetics of Joy" was that it is a combination of sculpture and performance art, like creating a sculpture out of people. I loved all the little things George did to create visual interest within the piece, such as the "lace dress" being made 0out of glue and the small balloon to blow one of the characters hair up at the exact right moment. I would have never thought about something like this, but I absolutely love it, and hope George continues to expand this project with more images.

VISUAL ART
George Ferrandi's idea of giving people what they wanted through drawings was unlike anything I had ever seen before, and it was such a quirky and special project. Yet again, I love how George got inspiration for her project simply by posting on her Facebook what people wanted, reading her friends responses, and then creating images to reflect what each friend asked for. I love how this project is just so random, but acts almost as a simple act of kindness to brighten up her friend's days. I also love some of the approaches George took with some of the drawings, such as the "Martin likes this" picture.

PERFORMANCE ART
This post wouldn't be complete without me talking about how much I loved George Ferrandi's performance art "I felt like I knew you." This piece seems so simple, just relaxing your head on the shoulder of an unaware passenger on the subway, but it is also so thought provoking to see how different people react to the situation. It is also interesting to use this to observe how many people in our culture do not physically interact with strangers and people they do not know, and I think this project could be used as an interesting social experiment when traveling in other countries. I just think this is a really brave thing to do, but also such an interesting project.

Overall, I really liked this art lecture. George Ferrandi is such an interesting person, and an incredible artist, and I hope to see more of her projects in the future! I am really curious to see more photos from the "I felt like I know you" project, plus more "Prosthetics of Joy". I really enjoyed this art lecture, and I hope to see more of George Ferrandi in the future!
