I am SO excited about this painting! I guess working on these paintings is what I'd always imagined art class to be like, maybe it's just from watching "She's All That" one too many times, but I just love being so free to paint whatever we want, however we want, and on such a large scale! I have never been given a challenge quite like this before, but I am so excited about it I can hardly wait to continue working!
I kind of decided to "just go with it" as far as my strategy for starting this painting, and I'm honestly really happy with how it turned out. My goal is to continue blending the red into the blue over the whole canvas, hopefully creating a very pale blue around the outside edges. I also think it would be so cool to create texture coming out from the so-called "burst of energy" in the middle too, like using join compound to create thicker layers of texture as the color gets lighter to create an interesting contrast. I'm not completely sure yet, but I'm having so much fun experimenting!
On a quick, unrelated side note, Erin and I have found the lightning shooting sledgehammer, and may or may not have taken some highly overdramatic photos with it. We also decorated the art room mannequin (the blue baby returns?) and I drew about 10 gazillion (5) quick, sketchy self portraits this week, which was really fun. I actually think I might turn this into a little project, like draw a quick, sketchy type portrait every day to kind of reflect my mood, not only will it document how I'm feeling, but also help improve my sketching skills! I don't know, just an idea I might try (after exams though!)
