No, this isn't a photograph. Ron Mueck, the mastermind behind this incredible real-life sculpture has been creating these pieces for almost 20 years. His style is unlike any other, he is a combination of so many styles- sculptor, photo realist, hyperrealist- that it's impossible to put him in a category! Since his first "official" art opening in 2009, Mueck has gained incredible success and recognition in such a short period of time. His pieces stand out, not just for being incredibly realistic, but also because of their massive size! |
Mueck was born in Australia, and originally did not think he would have an interest in fine arts. During his early years, Mueck actually pursued a career in film and voice acting, landing the job as creative director and puppeteer on the Jim Henson series The Storyteller. However, soon Mueck realized that fine arts was his true calling, as he had always enjoyed making props for movies rather than acting in them. He began to make sculptures representing people he had known in real life, eventually leading to Dead Dad, the piece that some consider to have made his name. Dead Dad was a sculpture Mueck made to remember his father, scaled to about 2/3 the size of the natural corpse and using Mueck's own hair for the final product. Inspired by his success with Dead Dad, Mueck continued making many hyperrealistic sculptures, and his work began to increase in size and detail. Now Mueck is one of the most well-known sculptors in the world for his unique style and incredible attention to detail.
I absolutely love Mueck's work, its unlike anything I've ever seen before and probably anything that has been created before. Mueck' ability to make hyperrealistic/photorealistic work 3D as compared to many 2 dimensional photorealistic work makes it truly stand out from the crowd and make it truly memorable. It's amazing someone could make something look this realistic simply out of regular materials, I would absolutely love to try something like this sometime!
